The first hole is your front garden.
A 6,500 square foot house on the fairway at Chapala Country Club. At 5,200 feet the weather stays like spring all year, and the largest freshwater lake in Mexico sits below the terrace.
Check availabilityWhere the house sits
The house sits directly on hole one at Chapala Country Club, a nine-hole course built into the mountainside in 1955. Different tee placements across each round turn it into a full eighteen, with blind shots, doglegs and water on a course that runs along the slope rather than across it.
There are clubs here you can borrow, and green fees are reasonable. The clubhouse and restaurant are about fifteen minutes away.
Below the course is Lake Chapala, hot-spring fed and the largest freshwater lake in Mexico. The tap water is clean. Behind the community, a mountain you can walk up.

Two bedrooms. The TV room takes more when you need it, since the recliners lie almost flat and cots can come out. There is plenty of room, though those are not official beds.
Heated pool
Heated and outdoors, which is rare here. Comfortable to swim in rather than just look at.
Step-free throughout
The whole property is wheelchair accessible, and there is an elevator. Rare in this area and worth knowing if anyone in your party needs it.
5,200 feet
Nights cool down even in summer, and the pool is heated for the months when they cool down a lot. The walk back up from the course is also harder work than you expect.
Chef's kitchen
Every appliance you could ask for, plus a separate kitchenette. Ask about anything specific and it is probably here.
Green fees are about seventy-five dollars
Semi-private and open to the public, so guests can play without a membership. Cheaper after two in the afternoon, and there are clubs at the house if you would rather not fly with yours.
